Jumping Problems Solved
Gridwork: The Secret to Success
CAROL MAILER
Any jumping problem can be vastly improved, if not solved, by the
careful and methodical use of gridwork. A “grid” is a series of
obstacles, generally built in a straight line and intended to be ridden
as an entity, used to develop a horse's gymnastic athleticism. In this
highly informative book, the author introduces the basic concepts of
gridwork, describing how at its most elementary, it can help both the
novice horse and rider gain confidence. Carol then provides specific
exercises for common jumping problems at every level, including
refusing, rushing, misjudging distances, and banging rails.
With individual sections devoted to sharpening the advanced horse for
competition, improving jump–off technique, and facing especially tricky
cross–country obstacles (such as those with angles and corners), this
book is infinitely useful for horses and riders of all abilities and in
all jumping disciplines.
CAROL MAILER has ridden horses since she was eight years old and trained
under Davina Whiteman, one of the most respected authorities on showing
in Great Britain. She has successfully competed, as well as trained
horses and riders of all abilities for more than 30 years. Carol
regularly contributes articles on jumping and gridwork to Your Horse
magazine. She lives in England.
