L’Hotte, a French general, became one of Frances’s greatest riders. He
was himself a pupil of both François Baucher and the Comte d’Aure. As
commandant of the French Cavalry school he had to follow the teachings
of the latter master but, with his personal horses, practiced the
teachings of Baucher, something for which he was, and still is,
criticized. Required reading for all who are interested in the French
