Predict-A-Foal Kit

This kit will save you many sleepless nights yet help insure that you're present when your mare foals. I've been using this type of product in my breeding program for a number of years now and I've attended every foal born on our farm. Since our foaling barn is more than 1500 feet from the house, it's a bit of a trek out to the barn to check on a term mare. But with the Predict-A-Foal test kit combined with our Foal Alarm I sleep like baby until a mare gets serious about birthing.

The Predict-A-Foal Kit will help determine whether an expecting mare will be foaling within 12 hours. Safe and easy to perform. Simply take a sample of milk from the mare, add it to the test solution, mix, use the test strip and wait for results. The 15-test kit is 95% accurate, comes with step-by-step instructions for testing procedures and will help alert owners of expecting mares of impending parturition.

On our farm, when a term mare's Predict-A-Foal test indicates she's likely to foal within a few days, we attach our Foal Alarm to her halter. Because the Predict-A-Foal has indicated increasing likelihood of parturition, I know that when the Foal Alarm goes off it's probably not because she's just snoozing on her side. I make very few unnecessary trips to the foaling barn which makes me happy because I get enough sleep even in foaling season. I'm sure it also enhances the wellbeing of my mares by not constantly disturbing their rest at the end of their pregnancy.

The Predict-A-Foal kit works by measuring levels of calcium and magnesium in the mare's milk. As foaling time nears, these levels begin to rise considerably. The test is designed to monitor these levels The kit includes 15 plastic strips, each with 5 indicator squares that are impregnated with special chemicals. Each square contains a different amount of chemical in it (to indicate degrees ranging from low to very high) which react according to the levels in the mare's mammary secretions. As the squares on the strip change color, this correlates with the chart supplied with the kit offering the probability of the mare foaling within the next 12 hours.
