"Cooler" is a misnomer - the term should actually be "Warmer" if you want to describe the action of the garment. Sweat and moister is wicked away from the horse's body and moves to the surface of the cooler where it evaporates. The horse dries more quickly, but the cooler keeps the horse warm, allowing him to cool gradually, to prevent chills that produce stiff, sore muscles.

I enjoy taking my horses out to snack on grass while they're cooling down or, if I'm working several horses, I'll put them in their stall with the cooler on. In either case, I replaced many coolers torn by the horse stepping on the corner of the garment when putting their head down to graze or munch hay. I'm a slow learner, but eventually we came up with this special design that is cut back in the front so when the horse puts his head down the cooler won't drape on the ground. The horse is still covered and protected as well as with an ordinary cooler. This is the only design we use on our farm.
