Safety-Flex Trailer Ties

Most trailering problems arise when the horse pulls back against a solid trailer tie. The horse tends to "sit down" behind and gets his hind legs too far under him. In this precarious position he can easily slip over on his side and end up dangling by the trailer tie - potentially resulting in serious damage to his neck and spinal column. Or he may actually plunge into the manger, creating a whole new crisis. Safety-Flex Trailer Ties are more than twice as flexible and twice as strong as rubber ties. So when your horse pulls back he simply bumps into the butt bar of the trailer. When he tires of the pressure being applied to his head by the stretched tie, he calmly steps up to the front of the trailer where he belongs. Please note that there are no quick-release snaps on Safety-Flex Trailer Ties. Release of a fully stretched tie with a heavy snap attached could potentially result in injury to the horse or handler. These ties have turned two of my worst haulers into happy campers - honest! They even load easily now. Safety-Flex was originally developed for military use but quickly found civilian applications as well. Unlike rubber it will not deteriorate through exposure to sunlight, salt or water. Add rust-free solid bronze snaps and you have a trailer tie you can depend on.

Colors: Blue, Red and Yellow.
Sizes: 29" & 36" overall length - snap opening 5/8".

I use these ties to help me teach my young horses to tie. The best technique I've found is to tie the youngster to a ring situated near his feed tub and give him a little grain to eat. When he's finished eating he'll naturally try to leave, only to discover that option is denied! I've found they rarely panic in this situation and, even if they do they're unable to hurt themselves. They soon tire of pulling against the tie and quickly step up to ease the pressure. A few sessions like this goes a long way toward teaching them to stand tied. Some are clever enough to figure out that they can break the ties if they pull hard enough. In this instance I simply use two ties to secure them & so far I've not even had a strapping big three-year-old break two used at once. CM
